Leaving Portland, Oregon to take a tour of University of Advancing Technology (UAT) proved to be the best decision I’ve ever made. UAT doesn’t just give you the education, but the knowledge to become an innovator.
I was initially drawn to UAT because of the Robotics and Embedded Systems degree. To my surprise, what attracted me most was the University’s culture. After touring the campus, I was hooked. There is a great sense of community between the faculty and students.
My experience at UAT has been nothing short of phenomenal. With UAT being a smaller, private college, I have had more direct access to faculty. At any given point there are usually four or five faculty members you can approach for help. I have never been turned down for help by a professor. Even when the projects or questions have nothing to do with the course, they are always happy to share their knowledge and experience.
My favorite part of UAT is the community. Having access to cutting-edge technology and faculty who have decades of industry experience makes learning fun and easy. Every day holds a new experience or opportunity, which is why UAT is an experience more than a university.
My favorite classes have been my robotics courses. The degree of difficulty was matched only by the reward of succeeding. It has transformed the way I look at technology. I used to believe it was magic that made technology, but learning what makes the clock tick almost makes it feel like time is in your hands.
My favorite learning experience has been programming. Learning how to turn a few characters and words into something tangible is exciting and rewarding. Students interact with one another to help find more innovative solutions. This approach was something both unique and new that truly has helped me succeed.
I am currently the Student Government President, and I love being involved with the University and students. Participating in extracurricular activities is what gives you the true “college experience.” There’s always an event or club meeting, which makes it easy to stay entertained on campus.
Having intimate knowledge and experience in my field of study has given me the ability to shape technology from the inside, rather than the outside as a consumer. It helped me find my passion, and it has given me the privilege to positively impact lives. I plan to bring robotics from science fiction to your home and workplace. I want to make life better, easier and more enjoyable.
UAT spares no expense in providing its students with the most relevant and current technology available. They recently added a New Technologies Lab with 3D printers, leap-motion and an oculus rift for students to utilize. Our network security equipment is also state-of-the-art. There has never been a situation in which I needed something the school didn’t already provide.
The culture and size truly make UAT unique. Students interact with every level of faculty, from the administration team to the Dean. There is never an unfriendly face or a bad time to approach peers or faculty for help. Some may come for a degree, but they leave with a family. The college is constantly adapting by taking student feedback to help shape the courses it offers. All of this really helps students stay ahead of the curve.
UAT students are innovative and they’re here to make a splash in the technology pool. Many like myself came to UAT with little or no technology experience, but within a semester or two, became well acquainted with it.
Between the years of experience faculty bring and the hands-on approach to the curriculum, we as students leave ready to pursue our dreams. UAT has interesting, required courses to bolster portfolios, and it provides endless opportunities to meet companies and individuals in the field.
There are thousands of accredited institutions across the nation, and each one can give you a degree and prestige. However, UAT’s education can provide the experience and the knowledge to turn your goals into a reality. If education is the only means by which we can forge a greater future, then attending UAT has undoubtedly changed the course of my life.
